Sycamore Junior High School Percussion
Instructors: Ryan Lamb, Abby Hinson
At Sycamore Junior High School, the percussion student in grades 7 and 8 meet together every school day in a percussion only class setting. Class sessions in this arrangement allow the percussionists to focus on aspects of musical technique that are unique to percussion playing and to stay more engaged than they might be in a typical full band setting. During percussion class, students play melodic keyboard instruments, such as Marimba, Vibraphone, Xylophone, and Bells; battery percussion instruments like Snare Drum, Bass Drum, and Cymbals; and other instruments, including Timpani, Tambourine, Triangle, and many more. Students play music that is specific for percussion ensemble, but also prepare musical selections that fold them into the full band setting for concert performance.
